Word on the street is that the CW is tapping into its reservoir of comic book characters again, another DC comic superhero to be more precise. Only a year after Smallville ended its 10-year stint on the – what I like to call — bubblegum pop network, it’s already deciding on whether to order a pilot of Arrow.
Arrow is the story of Green Arrow, a billionaire by day and a crime fighter by night, similar to Batman. And if you were a big Smallville fan like I was and am; you’ll remember that Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, was Clark Kent’s infamous sidekick on the show. Hmm, I wonder will they get Justin Hartley to reprise his role as the green archer.
Well, rumor has it that someone else will probably don the green suit, and what a big suit he’ll have to fill. I say stick with Hartley to pull in the Smallville fans. Well, one thing is definite. It looks like the writing duo behind the Green Lantern movie, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, will be working with Fringe co-Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg, to bring keep the superhero alive on the small screen. You may also know the name, Kreisberg, because he’s currently working on one of my favorite TV shows, The Vampire Diaries. Oh, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). *Sigh*
I digress. Anyway, I did enjoy watching Ryan Reynolds, I mean Green Lantern, but we’ll see whether the pilot, if given the green light, will grab TV critics’ attention. Not even a hot man wielding a bow and arrow could stop a gaggle of pen-wielding TV show killers. It’s all in the stroke.
Either way, if it’s good or bad news, I’ll keep you posted on any other tidbits I hear or find out about riving the billionaire superhero.
There’s a lot to be excited about in January. It’s the start of a new year and the start of new and returning TV series. It’s been a long harsh holiday subjected to reruns.
Now the winter hiatus is over and the real TV watching can continue. Here’s a look at a few TV shows on my list for consideration. OK… I’ll watch at least one episode of a new show. First up, Paula’s new show.
Live to Dance
, Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 8pm
OK… I’m still debating on whether I really want to watch this show or not. Paula Abdul is not enough to make me watch, but the dancers might be.
V, Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 9pm
Even if the world were coming to an end, with or without aliens, nothing could make me miss the season premiere of the V’s second season. And there’s no way I’d miss Jane Badler reprise her role as Diana, and Marc Singer, the cult classic’s hero from the 1980s TV miniseries.
Southland, Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 10pm
I’ll definitely check this premiere out. It’s still one of the grittiest shows on TV, and who could turn the channel with the sizzling hot Regina King keeping the cops in check?
Modern Family, Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 9pm
I hear several guest appearances are lined up for the second half of the award-winning sitcom’s 2nd season, including a hot tub scene with Cam, Mitchell and their neighbor played by sexy James Marsden.
Cougar Town, Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 9:30pm
I just had to list it. I love it, but sometimes I wonder if Modern Family moved from its time slot would I be that devoted to watching on it on the regular. Hmm, probably not, but I do love Courtney Cox.
Jersey Shore, Thursday, Jan. 6, at 10pm
They’re back! The Situation, Pauly D, Snooki, J-WOW, Ronnie, Vinny and Sammi head back to the Jersey Shore this season with Deena Nicole, Snooki’s best friend. Oh, I saw interesting preview of Miss Deena and Sammi in a shouting match. Of course, Ronnie intervenes. What a meathead!
The Wild Within, Sunday, Jan. 9, at 9pm
Travel Channel kicks off their New Year with one of several new shows in 2011. Head out in the wild with author and outdoorsman Steven Rinella. OK… I admit it’s a shameless plug, but check out The Wild Within website, too.
Being Human, Monday, Jan. 17, at 9pm
I enjoyed watching BBC’s version, but I’m not sure if SYFY’s remake is compelling enough to get me and to tune in. Again American television rips off another original idea. Really?!
Harry’s Law, Monday, Jan. 17, at 10pm
This show looks promising for so many reasons! Why? Academy Award winner Kathy Bates plays Harriet Korn, a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer, and the new show is produced David E. Kelley, who created FOX’s “Ally McBeal”.
Perfect Couples, Thursday, Jan. 20, at 8:30pm
This new NBC show is being compared to “Friends,” another classic sitcom. And after seeing a few previews it just might get my vote. The new show — with a cast of unknowns – could help the Peacock Network get its must-see sparkle back.
Vampire Diaries, Thursday, Jan. 27, at 8pm
I never expected to get hooked on this teen cast of vamps, witches and werewolves. The plot has definitely kept me entertained, and I’m ready to meet the mysterious Klaus.
Smallville, Friday, Jan. 28, at 8pm
The DC Comics hero suits up for the final episodes to wrap up the CW TV series. I’m hoping a few ends get tied up including, where are Lex Luthor and Chloe, and when is this super dude going to fly. I mean after 10 seasons fans deserve that much!

“Take it from me. Living without love is not really living. It’s just sort of existing. The question you have to ask yourself is what are you really willing to risk for love.”
Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow advises Clark Kent to reveal his true identity to Lois Lane, on Smallville.
