Chris Brown’s Turn Up the Music

I really like this video because it transports me back to when music videos were fun, creative, and when choreography was also important. Chris Brown seems to be channeling MJ (Michael Jackson) in this video, but don’t sleep on him, he has his unique moves and flair.

Even though I love the video and continue to be amazed with Breezy’s talents, I still believe he needs to work on his anger and domestic violence issues. After being subjected to domestic violence as a child, I think it’s an issue no one should take lightly. It’s not something we should overlook just because we’ve been dazzled by a shiny object — Chris Brown.

Anyway, I congratulate Chris Brown on his Grammy win for Best R&B Album, but I’m still baffled that up against fellow nominees, El DeBarge, Ledisi, Kelly Price and R. Kelly, that he took the Grammy home. I’m not sure, but I sense the Hip-Hop/Dance/R&B waters are getting a little muddy, and people don’t have a clear concept of what true R&B sounds like anymore. And btw, why wasn’t Jill Scott nominated? That was a hard pill for me to swallow.

Sorry for being a “Debby Downer,” but I’m sure Chris Breezy’s fun will add a little pep in your step. It did for me.

Chris Brown, feat. SWV - She Ain't You (Remix)

OK, this is hot! Check out the remix of Chris Brown’s She Ain’t You, featuring SWV (Sisters With Voices), a popular R&B trio from the 90s. Why wouldn’t you ask these sistahs to sing on your track after their mega-hit, Right Here, which also uses Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” in the background.

And in case you didn’t know, SWV has been touring with New Jack Swing hitmaker Teddy Riley in Japan. No word yet on whether they’ll take their tour on the road in the States anytime soon.

Anyway, listen to this hot joint. I’m sure Chris Breezy will perform it on The Today Show, this Friday, July 15. My hope is that it’s with my gurls, CoCo, Taj and LeLe.

Chris Brown’s “She Ain’t You”

This music video pays homage to Chris Brown’s biggest inspirations, Michael Jackson. The video is great if you love MJ’s legendary choreography and throwback moves from the 80s. Of course, I love the song only because it’s basically Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” with very similar lyrical melodies, but a different message. I’ll admit I still hear SWV’s “Right Here,” the first bite off MJ’s hit.

Chris Brown is plagued with his self-inflicted drama. He is a talented performer and singer, and it’s my hope that he cuts through his bad boy persona and seeks some real help (e.g. anger management). Otherwise, he will be just another recording artist who will get lost in the music industry shuffle — talented or not.

What do you think of Chris Brown’s new music video? Will he be able to rise above the fray?
